Kristen Wiig Gets Her Price and More for Tastefully Renovated $5.2M Mid-Century Modern in L.A.

Kristen Wiig fared quite well on the sale of her architecturally significant investment home in Silver Lake. The house was pending sale after only a couple of weeks on the market.

Wiig seems to have an unusually keen eye for near-future valuation, especially when it comes to fine examples of the mid-century modern style. This isn’t the first time she’s identified a winning investment opportunity in the Los Angeles-area real-estate market, but it might represent her most successful little coup to date: a $1.7 million investment and untold renovation cost rallied into a $5.2 million sale in about four years.

The Martin Residence, as it is known, was designed by architect Albert Martin and his wife as a home base; the couple designed and built most of the house themselves. It is situated on a hillside lot which commands fine views of the reservoir.

From a streetside perspective the home stands out with a red-orange front door, a prominent second-floor deck lording over the hillside, plenty of glass, timber accents, and a striking exterior staircase. The interiors are cozy, balancing utilitarian masonry with plentiful wood. The home’s layout is fairly compartmentalized for the style, enhancing the individuality of the place. This is a home with a sense of history.

Wiig’s renovations squeezed in a little home theater and brightened things up considerably in the 3,500 square-foot, three-bed three-bath home. Some concessions were made to the modern taste, of course; losing the original oppositional color scheme of the kitchen seems a bit of a shame, but living with it on a daily basis might’ve been a wee bit tiresome.

We’re kind of curious to see what opportunity the actress settles on next.
