German luxury tuner Brabus has once again transformed a Mercedes-AMG G63 into a fully decked-out super-SUV familiar to those who follow the company’s designs. This time around, though, they’ve produced a full-on off-roader: the finished product boasts a full two feet of ground clearance.
Brabus calles the new 700 4×4² “One of Ten” Final Edition, and it does look definitive. The tuning design started with a powerful foundation from Mercedes: the G63 rolls off the factory floor with a twin-turbo 4-liter V8 engine producing 585 horsepower. The high-end tuner’s tweaking and new components make the G63 a genuine powerhouse. The 700 in the name corresponds to the new horsepower rating, and is effected via bigger turbos and a more open exhaust system.
The Final Edition speeds from zero to 62 mph in 5 seconds, which is very quick for an SUV optimized for off-road use. New axles allowing for better articulation and higher ground clearance, and the off-road ready vehicle is accented with carbon wheel flares and a roof spoiler.
The cosmetics are compelling. Gold heat shielding for the boost pipes and intake give the Final Edition a little flash when the hood is up. Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires add off-road cred, and the interiors are finished in a healthy dose of custom leather and carbon fiber.
Only 10 examples are earmarked to roll out of Brabus’ factory. Pricing begins at about $235K.
