TV producer Max Mutchnick and husband Erik Hyman recently picked up a Beverly Hills mansion for $14.5 million.

The “Will & Grace” co-creator and his successful entertainment attorney husband have long been active in the Los Angeles-area real estate market. The pair’s newest purchase is an 8,000-square-foot multi-level built in the 1920s.

Tucked behind hedges and set on nearly an acre of land, the four-bedroom home boasts French country architecture and a singular design style. The expansive residence seems to be arranged on a right-angle, so most of the main living spaces look out to the beautiful backyard.

The interior could use an update or two here and there. The living room might especially benefit from a judicious stylistic shift: it’s a bit of a brown study.

There are more than a few period details that the duo might want to preserve, though. As is, the home boasts several sets of French doors, dark hardwood floors, and a charming sculpted staircase with a solid balustrade.

Downstairs, there is a large lounge and entertainment space with a wet bar, a fitness room, and a wine cellar. Such a space would be perfect for conversion to a more open indoor-outdoor living area if the new owners were so inclined.

Completely squared off by trees and hedges, the estate is made even grander by its lush backyard with a spacious terrace and a swimming pool. A one-bedroom, one-bathroom guesthouse fills out the grounds and completes the living style.
