‘Cheers’ star Kirstie Alley recently listed her longtime home in Los Feliz for $12 million. The actress has owned the Riviera-esque property for very close to twenty years, and stands to roughly triple her investment.
The house is an ornate affair, an early-1930’s build that defied the depression in the strongest terms possible. The frescoes that run throughout the foyer make for a duesey of a first impression, and combined with the original floors, and domed ceiling with floral chandelier, provide a rather remarkable entry.
Extravagant is the word for this six bedroom, seven bath trophy that measures 8,900 square feet. From the cherubs on the carved limestone living room fireplace to the family room out of a better children’s book, the house provides an unusually engaging tour.
Crown moldings, additional frescoes, pocket doors, carved wood, plentiful fanlight windows, wrought iron, gild, more period lighting, and decorative embellishments a-plenty give the eyes plenty of work; the amount of flourishing approaches rococo, as though the home’s motifs were a root system allowed to grow slightly wild.
The property’s exterior has a few surprises, too, including the hand-painted tile flooring in the arcade porch, exterior staircases with stone balustrades, terraces, and water features. The landscaping fits right in, of course, giving the acre of grounds a wild, slightly overgrown feel. The lemur guesthouse is included, too, apparently…but may not be furnished with lemurs.
