Indie-pop crooner Lana Del Rey should increase her “Lust for Life” in this right-brain-stimulating Los Angeles cottage she just purchased for $1.178 million. The 1911-built home was listed for $995,000, but its unique styling and vintage charm drove up the price through a minor bidding war.
Lana Del Rey is expecting her first child, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that she was looking to move on to something more family friendly. And just because a baby is on the way doesn’t mean style goes out with the bathwater.
The appeal of the home is its complete departure from contemporary upscale fashion, although the effect is of course carefully composed. The vintage-chic cabin received its celebrity-worthy treatment from Leanne Ford of HGTV. Long before the popular home renovator got her hands on the property, it was owned by another public figure, silent film actress Clara Kimball Young.
The house is located in the trendy Echo Park neighborhood, and measures 1,500 square feet. Tongue-and-groove, plentiful shelving, open-trussed ceilings, and patina-tinged fixtures are augmented by a soft white treatment and lots of natural light. A spectacular Malm fireplace, original raw wood elements, an old farmhouse sink, and a retro-styled Smeg refrigerator are a few other details.
The two-bedroom, one-bath offers an indoor/outdoor living space, too: an expansive stone terrace accessible via French doors.
