Toward the end of this month, JLR and Zenith let the faithful have a look at the first timepiece they’ve produced as part of their new, regular collaboration; the crossover item is a slickly modern watch designed to enhance and give exposure to Land Rover’s 2020 Evoque.
The preamble was nifty, but the rest of the story has now arrived, and it’s worth a look too. And where has Land Rover taken the sprightly SUV as the decade draws to its close? Not too far from the successful formula, when it comes to look; it’s been brushed up a little, but retains its popular youthful look. It’s a little longer to help with cabin space and can carry a bit more stuff for a weekend jaunt.
Inside, the 2020 Evoque does the luxe/eco-conscious dance very well. The execution is typically plush, but the design tosses in recycled materials for a cake-and-eat-it-too luxury car buying appeal that specifically targets young professionals. Natural textiles drive the point home.
Most interesting, perhaps, is some of the useful tech gadgetry this new Evoque is blessed with. ‘ClearSight’ aligns the signals from a series of digital cameras to give the driver a look at what’s going on with the ground below; off-roading just became more controlled, and less stressful.
The new Evoque’s hybrid drivetrain is very competent, too. The 4-cylinder is extremely efficient, its 2L displacement contributing to up to 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, depending on options.
Pricing hasn’t been announced. The 2019 Evoque base stickers at $42K.
