Lucy Liu’s rustic Studio City house saw a significant price reduction this month. The home had been initially listed at $4.2 million last May; six months later, it has settled at $3.5 million.

But none of that is as interesting as the home itself. The extremely warm and inviting abode is a bit of a luxe-rustic artists’ cottage, with enough surprises to continually beguile. It’s nestled quite comfortably in a dramatically hilly nook of Studio City, with lush SoCal landscaping giving it a pleasingly long-lost look.

Outside, the home is a tasteful exercise, with craftsman flourishes that indicate careful composition for a modest home and an ownership draw that favors the creative-minded right-brainer with an eye for color. The home’s moss-colored shake exterior and honey-finished accents give it a naturalistic look, enhanced by landscaping that gives a fair latitude of expression to the green and growing on the lot.

The 4,100 square feet of interiors bear out the impression, with a selection of stone, tile, and wood used occasionally in inventive ways. Plenty of glass, a few very cool fixtures, and fairly high ornamental ceilings complete the look and feel of a series of interior living spaces that avoids slick effect altogether.

The exterior living spaces get high marks, too, and features slate patios, a secretive glade of lawn, a pool with stacked-stone spa, and a timber-and-lantern pool house with glass front walls looking out over all.
