Usher Sells L.A. Home at a Loss

R&B singer and pop star Usher has finally sold his house in Hollywood Hills West. The process was a bit protracted, but not excruciating for the soul artist; he first listed the home last winter with an ask of $4.2 million, delisted it in the spring, relisted it in summer with a new price of $3.75 million, and accepted an offer of $3.3 million for it in the very late autumn. But he did incur a loss in the process; he bought the property for $3.4 million in 2015.

The house is a Spanish eclectic from the 1920’s, and although it’s been heavily renovated through the years, it retains many design cues that hint at its era. Arched French doors, exposed beams, a carved front door and a clay tiled roof keep the home’s era visible.

The home’s interior feel is largely contemporary and a little chameleon-like. The starkly dramatic foyer, lush media/entertainment room, dining room in blue and black, and slick, stone-clad kitchen collectively cover a lot of stylistic ground.

The home’s 4,261 square feet of living space across three floors. There are five bedrooms and 4.75 baths in the residence, with the upper-floor master suite including a very dark bedroom—black walls and dark-finished plank floors—and a bath with marble floors.

The home’s exterior space is limited, but quite lovely; the landscaping is romantic, with a slightly overgrown feel lending a bit of secrecy to the deck, terrace, and classic Spanish patio.

Usher’s headline appearance for RNB Fridays concluded this week.
