Divorced musicians Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger listed their one-time home in Sherman Oaks this week. The couple is asking $7.999 million for the property they purchased in June 2015, apparently only months before legally calling it quits as a couple. They paid $5.4 million for it in June of that year, before signing divorce paperwork amicably in September.
The house is substantially sized, measuring in at 10,200 square feet. It contains six bedrooms and nine baths, and a heady sense of space; the exterior is defined by a traditional amalgam of design cues borrowed from European country homes—mainly French—and the interiors follow through, beginning with a great room sporting a double-height ceiling and a double staircase rising to a second-floor gallery.
From there, the home develops in kind. Floors are distressed plank, giving the proceedings an antique period look, and the kitchen has the open, comfortable feel of a French estate kitchen, with a coffered ceiling, a large island, an integrated breakfast room, and finally a family room, with top-flight appliances that include wine storage and display contrasting with rustic cabinetry and a painted brick backsplash; a period-style candle chandelier.
The effect is staged but effective, and follows through the remainder of the house. Recessed fixtures add a modicum of the contemporary, and many a set of French doors and casement window look out onto the green of the lush landscaping.
Amenities include a third-floor billiards/entertaining space with skylights and a wet bar, a second wet bar on the main level, a home theater above the 3-car garage, and extensive outdoor living area with large patio, sports court, fireplace and feature, outdoor lounge with a bar, and a salt-water pool/spa.
