Scarlett Johansson is the newest resident in Snedens Landing. The actress picked up an almost impossibly charming, vine-covered cottage with spectacular water views at the end of last month; she offered $4 million for the home against and $4.3 million ask, and wound up calling it her own.
Snedens Landing—which is now known as Palisades, New York—has been prized as a private, quiet enclave for celebrities for decades. Current and previous homeowners include Bill Murray and Orson Welles. Phish lead vocalist and guitarist Trey Anastasio recently sold his home in the area.
Johansson’s new East Coast roost is a four bedroom, 4.5 bath house of about 4,000 square feet. The modified Colonial Revival was designed by local architect Eric Gugler, and constructed in 1953; it is known locally as Ivy house.
The fine details of the property are many; the house is an idealized American cottage, and the property beguiles with wrought iron accents, romantic landscaping, and a stunning sense of proportion. The warm-weather amenities the property has to offer represent some of the more enchanting features, and include a brick patio overlooking the Hudson, and an attached solarium trimmed with warm wood and floored with Saltillo tile that opens through French doors to the pool.
Inside, built-ins, fireplaces, and a large window array offer a living style that is cozy but airy. The master suite is just ethereal enough, with an ornate fireplace, and sliding glass opening onto a private balcony.
Johansson is currently the highest paid actress in Hollywood. The talented actress pulled down some $40 million in a recent 12-month period. Her recurring Marvel character ‘Black Widow’ will soon have a film all her own; the role reportedly came with a $15 million paycheck. Hello, Snedens Landing.
