‘A Star is Born’ writer and director Bradley Cooper recently picked up this slickly urbane townhouse in Greenwich Village. The understated 4,000 square-foot residence looks like a marvelous pied-a-terre for forays to Manhattan, but it set Cooper back a tidy $13.5 million to walk away with the keys.
According to public records, the last time the unit sold was in 2010, when it fetched $3 million. That’s a hefty increase in selling price, but the property had enjoyed a stem-to-stern overhaul before its most recent appearance on the market.
The revision has left it appealingly unpretentious; the raw wood beams and industrial-inspired light fixtures help give the interiors the feel of a tasteful analogue. The reclaimed wide-plank pine floors are spectacular, and go a long way to giving the home an immediately authentic feel. The kitchen packs in the big-name stainless, but keeps to the functional in material choices.
The residence extends to three floors above the ground, with a cellar floor for an entertainment space; a 1,000 bottle wine cellar and a half bath are situated below. The top floor is dedicated to the master suite, with enough space for a huge walk-in closet and a master bath with a skylight.
There are six bedrooms and 4.5 baths throughout the home, with four placed on the second floor, and a staff or guest room on the garden floor. The home features two fireplaces, two wet bars, a terrace, and a garden deck.
Cooper’s remake of ‘A Star is Born’ is currently in theaters. The film stars Cooper, Lady Gaga, and Dave Chappelle.
