Billionaire Ex-Banker and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin Seeking $32.5M for Manhattan Duplex

Steve Mnuchin has listed his unit in the Tower of Power—that is, 740 Park Avenue. The buy-in price for the unit in the residential concentration of movers and shakers is $32.5 million; it’s not quite as definitively located as the penthouse for sale in the same building at a shadow under $40 million, but it is larger. The unit is a combination of two stacked apartments, and features 12 rooms overall.

Of the 12 rooms, five are bedrooms and seven are baths. Ceilings are 11’ throughout, and plank hardwood floors run through most of the residence. There is an astonishing sense of space for a high-rise home, with the kitchen looking especially generously proportioned. The residence also contains a library, a nicely proportioned living room, and a formal dining room. Fireplaces throughout—there are at least four—appear to be original, with the marble entry in the dining room getting top marks.

The master suite deserves special mention, as it features a unique layout; his-and-hers bath and walk-in closet complexes flank the bedroom, with an office on one side. Other interesting features include ornamental ceilings, and a fresco in one of the en-suite baths.

740 Park Avenue has a long history that began with Jackie O’s grandfather—who was the developer—and architect Rosario Candela. The penthouse currently for sale for $40 million in the same building is owned by former Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain. That unit went on the market last spring.
