New York Life Insurance president John Kim has listed his residence in Flatiron for $11.95 million. Mr. Kim is retiring from the business, and he and his wife intend to depart the Empire State for warmer climes.
The unit is situated on the 24th floor of One Madison Park. Plagued for years by economic woes, the glass and bronze tower was finally completed in 2014. It contains 53 units across its 60 stories, and is located at the foot of Madison Avenue. Its shared spaces contain inventive interior architecture and striking artistic details, and views from its residences are unusually open and broad.
Madison Square Park views are exceptional from Kim’s apartment. The unit contains three bedrooms and 3.5 baths across 2,723 square feet, and begins with an entrance gallery that opens from a keyed elevator.
The home is one of the units in the building designed by the firm of Yabu Pushelberg. The details and materials on display are suitably dazzling; custom rosewood cabinetry in the kitchen is a standout feature. Quarter-sawn oak floors, plentiful marble and travertine in kitchen and baths, and abundant glass to take in views of the Empire State and the Met Life buildings also help sell the unit.
Exterior living space is a hallmark of One Madison, and this unit is no exception. The terrace extends to nearly 600 square feet, and wraps around two sides of the building.
