The Hamptons estate of Jean Kennedy Smith—the younger sister of John F. and Robert Kennedy, and elder of Ted Kennedy—has come up for sale at $35 million. The property is a direct link to the era of Camelot, and the second Kennedy-related Hamptons estate to hit the market in the past year; in the fall of 2017, Lasata, the childhood home of Jacqueline Kennedy went on the market, and sold in January for $24 million.
Smith’s estate is comprised of two connected properties, which are also for sale individually. The main house, a waterfront on a little less than five acres, is offered at $20 million. The smaller house sits on just over five and one-quarter acres, and is priced at $15 million.
The main house dates to 1850, and features Federal-style architecture and a winged design. It measures 6,000 square feet, with nine bedrooms, six baths, and a sprawling series of shared living spaces. It is situated directly on Sagg Pond, and features a private dock, tennis court, a pool with brick surround, and expansive lawns and gardens interspersed with mature trees. The smaller home is a 2,850 square-foot ranch-style of four bedrooms, with lawns, gardens, and a swimming pool.
Kennedy Smith founded Very Special Arts in 1974. She served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland during the Clinton years, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2011.
