Demi Lovato has listed her Los Angeles residence for sale. The singer is asking $9.495 million for the home. Lovato paid $8.3 million for it in late 2016.
The house is priced for a quick sale. The associations of the property for Ms. Lovato cannot be comforting; this summer, she nearly died in the home after ingesting oxycodone that had been laced with fentanyl. The dangerous trend is thought to be at least partially responsible for the death of Tom Petty late last year, and that of Prince about a year and a half before that. Demi Lovato was handed a reprieve: she spent a week in the hospital. But the house where the life misfire happened, understandably, must go.
For a new owner, the house has numerous consolations. The contemporary-style dates to the late 1970’s. The architecture is boxy and somewhat imposing, with a couple of peaked roofs to riff on traditional a little.
The interiors are open and airy; the house makes ample use of Fleetwood doors, so a couple of exterior walls in the main living area are optional. Bleached plank floors add to a generally ethereal feel that brings out the city views. The home’s design incorporates a half vaulted ceiling over the downstairs living space, with a broad expanse of glass and a contemporary gas fireplace. The partially enclosed staircase leads to an upper interior living area, as well as a terrace. A third level contains a master living suite.
The property extends to 1.2 acres, a nice size for the location, and one that gives it a nice feeling of sanctuary. A swath of artificial lawn culminating in a drainage grate isn’t the property’s best feature, but the walking path to the little gazebo is a charming addition.
Ms. Lovato’s upcoming gigs include a show in Monterrey, Mexico later this month.
