German caravan specialist Bürstner has a new path to take for a travel trailer design, and it may have even the staunchest urbanite considering the consolations of “roughing it.” It looks something like a tastefully upscale contemporary apartment on wheels. With high-tech refrigeration, an espresso machine, and an herb garden, no less.

That’s right in line with the company’s approach to the travel trailer; other models may be less luxurious, but they all adhere to the same stylized blueprint. It’s not just about creature comforts, of course. It’s about ambiance. Matte-finished wood, muted tones, recessed light fixtures, and Scandinavian-style cabinets all help carry the illusion that your travel trailer isn’t really a travel trailer at all. Something like an Airstream, except Eurorized.

The Harmony 3 concept, as it’s called, look like a harmonious way to tour. The familiar design cues of a nicely upscale apartment abound, and include chevon-pattern hardwood floors, marble backsplashes, a tasteful coffee table, and atmospheric LED backlighting. Inventive space-efficient features include a nifty suspended bed which is lowered from its stow-away home in the ceiling.

As far as the cramped, utilitarian-only and wouldn’t-use-it-otherwise bathroom found on most travel trailers, well, that was of paramount concern to the designers of this concept, and as a result the bathroom gets a good deal of space. A large shower provides enough room to comfortably bath, and there are drawers and shelves for convenience.

A surprisingly roomy kitchen, a couple of skylights, cozy ceiling fixtures, and a large sofa are also part of the floor plan of this camper. Did we just use the words ‘floor plan’ when writing up a travel trailer?

Let’s hope it moves into production.
