Daytime courtroom star Judy Sheindlin, aka “Judge Judy,” and husband Jerry Sheindlin ruled in favor of an East Coast mansion that had been listed for $9 million.
Located in Newport, the Sheindlin’s new residence currently holds this year’s record for the most expensive home sale in Rhode Island. Interestingly, the 9,719-square-foot home was formerly owned by the late philanthropist Dorrance H. Hamilton, heiress of the Campbell Soup fortune.
Nicknamed the “Birdhouse” for its location on a four-acre, higher-elevation plot, the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom manse features a stunning series of room-to-room design alterations. The judge will enter her new home via a beautiful two-story entrance hall before moving into the living room, where a soaring ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a statement floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace hold court. Further inside, there are plenty of spaces to entertain in the formal dining room, gourmet eat-in kitchen, and library.
Outside, the opportunities for relaxation continue; a covered porch with a swing, and lush gardens on the property offer broad views of the ocean and a means to meditate upon them. One of the finer estates of the Northeast.
