Actor Jamie Dornan recently listed a striking modernist residence in the Los Angeles area. Dornan is looking for $3.195 million for the home, which dates to the late 1950’s.

The statement house sacrifices for its visionary layout; the centerpiece of the home—physically and philosophically—is a glassed-in Japanese-style meditation pool and small courtyard. The common living spaces are arranged around this central point, and some spaces are shortchanged in the size department; the kitchen is relegated to nearly an afterthough, and the home office is downright cramped.

But social interaction is the essence of a modernist home, and the living room is allowed fullest expression in the 2,500 square-foot house. A double-sided fireplace in a stone accent wall provides a suggestion of optional demarcation between living and family rooms, if desired; in any case, the texture is welcome in a gathering area where glass, poured concrete, and segment-pattern walls predominate as style.

The bedrooms and baths get hardwood floors and tile, and gather a little uniqueness as a result; the red-toned mosaic-pattern tile in one of them ventures a bit of overt color. The master is a beaut: a glass wall retracts to make it truly indoor/outdoor, opening onto the patio and pool/lounge area. Landscaping is quite private.

Colorful grey-scale silliness in temporary abeyance, Dornan had the opportunity to work with Cillian Murphy in 2016’s ‘Anthropoid.’ His upcoming silver-screen appearances include the newest interpretation of the ‘Robin Hood’ tale; the film is due in theaters this winter.
