Meryl Streep has listed her longtime residence in Manhattan. The River Lofts penthouse is priced at $24.5 million.
The building has only one penthouse. It stretches to a shade less than 4,000 square feet, and features exterior walls that are predominantly glass. The building is situated on the Hudson in Tribeca, and replaced a Greenwich Village townhome as Ms. Streep’s Manhattan residence in 2006. She purchased the property for $10 million after selling the townhouse for $9 million.
The penthouse manages a neat trick: it feels both open and cozily compartmental by turns. Its layout is classic, with a central gallery leading to both common and private living areas, and two elevators opening into it. The south-facing living room and library are open-concept; a fireplace accent wall defines space between.
The kitchen is urbane rustic, with butcher-block island and counter tops. Overall, the style sense is contemporary, and doors, shelves, ceiling lines, and lighting are all understated. The feel is cohesive, controlled, and optimistic, with plank floors adding warmth and texture.
The master suite occupies the northern corner, and features a large walk-in closet, as well as a private sitting room, and a private section of the wrap-around balcony. The balcony extends to three sides of the building, and adds another 2,200 square feet of living space to the penthouse.
Meryl Streep’s real-estate dealings include a recent purchase in Southern California. In December of last year, Streep and husband Don Gummer picked up a unique midcentury modern home in Pasadena for $3.9 million.
