The Holiday House Geographic may be the vintage Chris-Craft of travel trailers. One look can transport the receptive viewer back to a country fueled by the manic optimism of the postwar growth spurt, atomic anxiety, and MGM films. And, like a classic Chris-Craft, the Holiday House Geographic sports a great deal of high-gloss polished wood, jet-age lines that err on the side of individuality instead of pragmatism, and a large measure of conspicuous status.

So you’re going to pay, you know, through the nose for one…if you can find it. Only 10 were ever made, two of which are believed to still be in existence. So there’s this one—pictured below, and currently for sale on Ebay for $225K—and there’s one other extant.

The Geographic’s unique looks are the product of the noted American industrial—and BMW race-car—designer Charles W. Pelly; Pelly went on to form Designworks USA, which BMW paid a bundle to acquire in 1995. To increase the cool factor to an absolutely ridiculous level, this example of the camper is actually 007. If Bond had toured the Southwest on R&R from the job related stress of working on Her Majesty’s Secret Service, he surely would’ve done so in one of these.

For one thing, there’s an onboard bar. But, more than that, the aesthetics are, shall we say, pleasing, especially after the recent, full, stem-to-stern renovation. A great deal of black walnut went into this camper, as well as stainless steel, and the furniture is straight out of the period. The renovation kept the contemporary in mind, however, if visually in abeyance. Updated climate control, and a flat-screen discreetly sneaked into one wall suffice.
