Late billionaire Wayne Huizenga’s South Florida estate, Tarpon Pointe, has been listed on the open market with an asking price of $26.95 million. Huizenga, who passed away in March of this year, had called the home his primary residence. It is located in Fort Lauderdale, and situated in the Rio Vista community.
The waterfront home extends to 18,000 square feet, and is built on the New River. It is designed in the French Caribbean villa style, and sprawls to plantation-size, with yellow brick used for property walls and exterior, brick and tile for walkways and patios; columns and a grand bell tower entrance are grandiose embellishments that help propel the narrative. A pagoda is featured prominently in the front of the property which overlooks a multi-stage swimming pool.
There are eight bedrooms and nine baths throughout the home, with guest and staff accommodations incorporated in the main house. The level of detail is, of course, exquisite: inlaid tile floors, carved wood, arches, West Indies-style ceilings, and period or period-looking light fixtures; the atmosphere is heady. Standout spaces include a magnificent solarium complex with automated shades.
The interior design style is the product of an artistic eye; wood grain, and warm and cool tones are used throughout to complement each other and achieve an effect that is, occasionally, breathtakingly beautiful. Green trim setting off beige walls and woods floors, and yellow tile enlivening the wood-heavy kitchen are two good examples of how color is used to enhance the living style.
The property extends to 1.5 acres, with deep water docks, walking paths, and lush tropical landscaping completing the fantasy.
Huizenga launched three Fortune 500 companies during his long career—Blockbuster Entertainment, AutoNation, and Waste Management—and is the only entrepreneur to date to do so.
