Ed Catmull, the president of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, has moved on from his San Francisco home; the property sold this month for $12.3 million. The five-bedroom residence sold in an off-market deal.
Catmull’s 6,700-square-foot Traditional is a study in understatement. It was designed by architect Arthur Brown Jr. and built in 1915. Since then, it has undergone considerable renovations, but still maintains classic features like custom paneling and moldings, original hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling French doors. The style is muted, and finds definition in period details and original architecture; arched French doors, neoclassical fireplaces, and window bays.
All the main living spaces feature 11-foot-high ceilings, and standout spaces include the airy living room, the wood-paneled library, the dining room, and the home theater. The updated gourmet kitchen is perfect for entertaining and features white cabinetry, gray countertops, and high-end appliances; a wet bar, wine cellar, and elevator are among the amenities. The exterior also lends to entertaining, with a covered patio and an al fresco dining space making best use of the home’s Pacific Heights location.
Catmull paid $9.95 million for the Bay Area property in 2015.
