Actor, writer and musician Billy Bob Thornton sold his property in Malibu this week. Thornton listed the home in early March of this year, asking $2.3 million for the modern-style residence. He had owned the property for a little more than a decade, having purchased it for $2.35 million in 2008. The sale price was $2.1 million…the timing was not convenient, and might be fodder for a minor blues of the upscale L.A. sort, should Thornton decide to pen a tongue-in-cheek twelve-bar.
Despite that bit of tough luck, the rapid marketing and sale may indicate a housing upgrade for Mr. Thornton, whose Amazon series Goliath has been a ratings giant since it debuted in late 2015. The second season of the drama was released in June of this year, and garnered higher ratings than the first.
So perhaps the nifty little 2,670 square-foot open-concept modern has become a little cramped for the Oscar-winner and roots-rocker. What it lacks in interior measurements, though, it makes up for in style. For all its emphasis on concrete and glass, the home comes across as very inviting.
Much of the home’s feel comes down to an ebullience of color, layout, and the continuation provided by a wall of windows. The color choice in the kitchen of cool, soft blue is more soothing than moody. The home is centered by a glass-enclosed staircase, a symbol of transition.
There are four bedrooms and three baths throughout the two floors of living space. The master is a little gem, with a private balcony that takes in a fairly unspoiled view of the canyon.
The home’s location is private and fairly remote, on a .3-acre hillside lot.
