After putting it up for rent this past February—with a monthly of $15K—Sandra Bullock has decided that perhaps selling her cottage in Hollywood Hills is the better idea. So, onto the market it goes, with an asking price of $2.995 million. Bullock has owned the property for the better part of two decades; she purchased it in 2001, for $1.485 million.
The cottage dates to 1942, and features 3,153 square feet of living space across, generally speaking, a single floor. There is a sleeping loft accessible via a spiral staircase, otherwise vaulted ceilings tell the tale—lots of breathing room, and a nice use of clerestories and skylights to augment the sense of space.
Most appealing, perhaps, is the way in which the kitchen leads into an adjacent solarium; a pair of clerestory windows bridges the two spaces, and a picture window looks out onto the meditation garden; the effect gives the kitchen a lovely sense of continuation, and a nice context.
Elsewhere, too, an inventive use of space prevails. The master bath is given a soaking tub with privacy with an accent wall, and the master bedroom’s vaulted ceiling and sets of French doors give it a pleasing airiness. The house’s renovations throughout the years have left it with a nook-and-cranny eccentricity that is expressed strongly everywhere, including the exterior; apart from the meditation garden, the property incorporates a cabana and a pool with stone patio.
Bullock appears in ‘Ocean’s 8’; the film—which also stars Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, and Anne Hathaway—is currently in theaters.
