Yamaha has announced new details regarding its upcoming Niken three-wheeled motorcycle.
Following its surprising announcement of the intended production of the unique vehicle last year, the Japanese manufacturer is offering up more information about the bike’s build and pricing. Yamaha’s Niken will officially be available to purchase for $15,999 starting this September.
The leaning three-wheeler is a sight to behold. The translation of its name means ‘two swords,’ and a quick look will tell you how it got its name. Its two parallel sprung front wheels create a completely unique riding experience, especially when cornering. The added stability makes Niken an ideal touring bike.
Niken features an 847cc three-cylinder engine that makes 113 horses, but the bike’s increased weight could mean it runs a bit slower than a traditional two-wheeler sporting the same power. This engine setup is inspired by the Yamaha MT-09, which is available starting at $8,999. So this three-wheel setup does come at quite the price increase. It will only be produced in very limited quantities, though, making it a collector’s piece as well as a conversation starter among ‘cycling enthusiasts.
