Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean recently listed his Los Angeles-area home for sale for $2.5 million. The supremely talented vocalist picked up the 2001-built house for $1.9 million three years ago.

The residence features an exterior which is a little imposing. A gated entrance with stone pilasters, a turret entrance with recessed entry and stacked stone exterior wall, and an otherwise boxy two-floor design distinguish the home’s streetside impression. The entry’s tile floor is embellished with a compass rose inlay, a nice detail to begin the home.

Within, the house introduces via a narrow, double-height foyer and a second floor gallery with iron balustrade. A staircase leads steeply to the second floor on one side, and adds a little dash of period Spanish style with its colorful tile risers and wood treads.

Taken in entirety, the interiors are expressed in a combination of dark, distressed wood floors, and off-white with almost-black satin trim. The home’s five bedrooms and 5.5 baths culminate in a master suite that features a grand stone fireplace with a raised hearth, and a retractable glass wall that opens broadly to reveal a quaint balcony with a wrought-iron balustrade.

There isn’t much room for lawn on the property, with clipped green relegated to the spaces between the grid tiles, but the home does manage a very appealing and unpretentious style of exterior SoCal living with a small pool and spa, stacked stone accents, a water feature, relaxed tropical landscaping, and a covered patio with an outdoor fireplace.

The Backstreet Boys are still going strong, and are currently finishing their ninth studio record.
