Country-pop singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson is apparently in no hurry to sell her riverfront estate in Tennessee. The property first surfaced on the open market in March of last year with an asking price of $8.75 million; almost fifteen months later and that’s where it stands. Not even a token reduction so far.
But that doesn’t mean she can’t pick up another lavish home. And pick one up she has. A brand new custom-built house in the Royal Oaks neighborhood, in fact, measuring about 10,000 square feet. That’s about half the interior living space of the home in Tennessee. But, then, this is Southern California we’re talking about now.
The postmodern-inflected home is a mishmash of styles, voicing contemporary, farmhouse, and modern architectural cues. The poured concrete exterior is embellished with a veneer of distressed wood accents, making for an interesting amalgam.
Inside, the eight bedroom, eleven bath home is occasionally quite lovely, with inlaid and matte finished hardwood floors, reclaimed timber supports and beams, and reclaimed brick. The home’s layout is open, but declares its room-to-room transitions well, giving it a good sense of structure. The raw wood and matte finish is augmented by unpolished stone, so throughout the home a naturalistic conceit predominates.
The master suite is the heart of the home, and features a custom fireplace, a sitting room, and a private terrace. The lot extends to a little more than half an acre of land, with a pool, lawns, and a guest house filling out the property.
Kelly Clarkson’s most recent studio album is last year’s ‘The Meaning of Life’; a multi-platinum title if ever there was one. A tour in support of the record is slated to begin this year.
