The latest design broadside from the contemporary minimalist camp comes from Damian Williamson. The British designer is leaning into the popular style with his new Ovo Chair created for Erik Jørgensen.
Interestingly enough, the design inspiration actually came from the simple beauty of egg pasta draped over a rolling pin. Its name even honors his pasta inspiration; “egg” in Italian is “uovo.” The juxtaposition of the arms against the strong, curved back recalls Williamson‘s muse. And, like fresh dough laid against a large pin, the chair’s shape is fluid and unobtrusive.
Contemporary styling cues give the chair a modern look: a squared steel frame puts the chair’s curves on display, and indicates its utility by drawing the eye to the leather chair’s shapely lines.
