Rob Lowe Lists Potently Traditional Montecito Home for $47M

A pair of singular residential California properties resurfaced on the market recently, and we’re covering them both this week. Scott McNealy’s estate in Palo Alto, priced at a stout $97,000,000, is one of the two properties. That house—a 32,000 square-foot stone-and-timber monster designed by architect Thomas Jakway—was custom-built for its owner in 2008, and features a stridently individual design sensibility.

The other is Rob Lowe’s estate, called Oakview, which went up for sale with an asking price of $47,000,000; that property, located in Montecito, is crowned with a distinguished Georgian manor, and sooths with a strong sense of traditionalism. The tried-and-true comforts are the highlights in this house, and come thick and fast on a tour of the home. The occasional window seat, built-in bookshelves, crown moldings, tongue-and-groove ceilings, wide-plank floors, splashes of marble, and antique light fixtures throughout define the house.

Standout spaces include a full stainless kitchen in the professional/commercial style; it’s been long enough since the style was cutting-edge that it’s achieved quaintness. A covered porch with tongue-and-groove floor and ceiling and a series of lantern pendants, and a family room with a wet bar that is almost impossibly atmospheric are the charmers.

The property exterior features large swaths of lawn, flower gardens, a tennis court, a koi pond with integrated footpath, a two-bed guest house, and a one-bed cabana.

80’s heartthrob Lowe got his start working for Coppola. More recent roles include a terrifying turn as a morally bankrupt plastic surgeon in 2013’s ‘Behind the Candelabra.’
