After watching it waver on and off the market for just about five years on the nose, producer Bob Weinstein has sold his palatial house in Greenwich, Connecticut for $17 million. Weinstein hung a $32 million price tag on the property when it first went up for sale in the early summer of 2013; the last asking price for the nearly 13,000 square-foot house on 3.3 acres was just south of $20 million.
Weinstein paid $16 million for the property in 2000, and apparently put a fair amount of cash into it conducting a massive renovation completed in 2012. The house dates to the First World War.
As it stands now, the home’s grandiose pretensions are in full flower. It’s unabashedly European, and, situated in the lush landscape of Greenwich, looks very much like a French Riviera villa. It contains six bedrooms, eight baths, and nine fireplaces. The exterior features stucco walls and a slate roof.
Interiors are fairly dazzling, if you appreciate the formal style: plaster ceilings with exquisite crown moldings, period chandeliers and pendant fixtures, and brick or hardwood floors distinguish the living spaces. There is a great deal of glass, of course, with many sets of French doors—many capped with fanlights—and casements throughout, offering stunning views of the ocean, lawns, and stone walkways, terrace, and pier.
The property exterior features 440 feet of shoreline, a tennis court, gardens, and lawns bordered by mature trees.
