Actor Joe Mantegna has picked up a Hollywood Hills home for $1.3 million.

The “Criminal Minds” star’s new L.A.-area Spanish-style bungalow was built in 1926, and has had a long history of celebrity ownership in its nearly 100 years of existence. Late film executive Jack Warner and actress Kathryn Leigh Scott are included in the roster of noteworthy former owners.

The two-bed, two-bath home has undergone extensive renovations and stretches to just over 1,700 square feet. Period details that turn up the charm include a classic red-tile roof and white-stucco walls.

The center of the home is the narrow but inviting living room; the soaring beamed ceiling and corner fireplace clad in Spanish tile balance expansive and cozy beautifully, the French doors bring in a breezy insouciance, and the alternating green-on-white tongue-in-groove adds unusual character. Some of the renovations are a little on the generic side; one hopes original floors weren’t traded for big-box beige tile.

Bedrooms are as highly individual. There’s a good dose of rustic involved throughout, but plenty of authenticity to see it through. Exterior spaces are as comfortably unassuming and eccentric, and include a private terrace off the master and a tile patio. There is a very small detached studio on the property; moorish tile, raw timber, and a tile roof keep it architecturally consistent with the rest of the property.

Before his longtime role on “Criminal Minds,” Mantegna appeared in “The Godfather: Part III.” He owns several other Los Angeles-area homes.
