La Casa Pacifica—a.k.a. the Western White House—has resurfaced on the market and is for sale once again. The home that was at one time owned as a California retreat by President Nixon is priced at $63.5 million. In recent years, it has occasionally been listed for sale; the asking price has diminished bit by bit from the $75 million price tag hung on it in 2015.

The property is a bona fide compound; it extends to nearly 5.5 acres. The main house measures about 9,000 square feet of interior living space; there are 15,000 square feet of interior living space all told.

The main house was designed as a Spanish Colonial, and dates to the late 1920’s. In keeping with the style, it is incorporated into a central courtyard design, with stucco walls, arcades, and a low-pitched, tiled roofline.

The property exterior is extravagantly expansive, with walking paths and meditation benches sprinkled along the property’s 450 feet of beachfront, a guest house with pool, staff residences, a tennis court and putting green, and landscaped gardens of striking beauty.  The location is private and entirely unique, making the property one of the most desirable in California.

Nixon purchased the home in 1969, and sold it to its current owner, Gavin S. Herbert, around 1980. Herbert founded Allergan Inc. in 1948, and Regenesis in 1994.
