John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have a new addition to their collective real-estate portfolio, and this one’s on the East Coast. This week, the couple dropped a little more than $9 million for a penthouse unit in Manhattan. Greenwich Village, to be precise. Nolita, to be even more precise.
The apartment is located in a building that dates to 1856; in its era, it was home to an illustrious carriage-maker. It was converted to condominiums around 2012. It contains nine condos in its six floors, with retail and a restaurant below.
The loft-style residence extends to a little more than 2,600 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and three baths. The interiors of the duplex unit feature contrasting hardwood floors and walls, oversize windows, a perimeter rail ladder along one wall, and an industrial-influenced staircase rising toward a solarium skylight, and exposed brick.
The kitchen and baths show tasteful execution and, in the case of the former, a delirious sense of scale that matches the soaring ceilings of open-concept space. The rail ladder may be positioned to access cabinets 10’ off the floor.
The staircase leads to the roof terrace, which is beautifully landscaped, and features plenty of raw timber, an outdoor living space, and a dining area with kitchen.
Legend and Teigen wed in 2013. The couple had their second child earlier this month.
