Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently picked up this English manor-style from musician Moby. The actor paid the musician $4.91 million for the Los Feliz property known as Red Oak Manor. Chalk one up for the musicians. Moby picked up the home in 2016 for $3.4 million.
Although the $1.5 million gross return must be figured in relation to the considerable renovation costs Moby tallied during his ownership. The home as it currently stands is the result of an extensive two-year revision, which modernized it thoroughly, while sensitively retaining the feel of the original 1920’s build, and even perhaps enhanced its period character.
There’s a lot to catch the eyes interior-wise, with unexpected ceiling lines, softening arches, and a terrific sense of proportion. Narrow plank oak floors, a trio of original fireplaces (each unique), and a series of nook-and-cranny surprises are highlights of the living spaces; the alcove window-seat in one of the two master suites, the use of varied hardwoods for effect, and the judicious use of built-ins in many other rooms, strike the eye most forcefully. Overall, a tremendous sense of balance is evident in the home, and its unique corners shine: check out the guest/staff room with the ship’s berth bed; it’s ideal for day-dreaming of jumping ship for Nuku Hiva.
The exterior of the home is similarly expertly rendered, with lush landscaping giving the property a great deal of privacy, and a secretive pool and spa filling out its two-tenths of an acre.
