YouTube co-founder Steve Chen may be bidding adieu to his San Francisco penthouse. Chen is asking $5.95 million for the Scandinavian-inflected residence.
The unit is located in the Ritz-Carlton Residences is currently pending sale, and went into contract after a price reduction of $2 million from its last foray on the market.
The apartment occupies the top two floors of the Ritz, and holds two bedrooms and three baths. Joel Sanders Architects of New York City custom-designed the Bay Area unit for Chen, and the 3,030-square-foot space impresses with a minimalist contemporary look that strikes a pleasing balance between warmth and detachment.
The living room features a sense of scale that borders on intoxicating; the double-height ceiling design makes clerestories of the upper-floor windows. Essentially open-concept, the living room, kitchen and dining area all flow into and out of one another. Most appealing, perhaps, is the floating walnut-and-glass staircase that leads to the master. There are eagle-eye views of San Francisco from nearly every room.
Entrepreneur Chen served as YouTube’s chief technology officer before selling the company to Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion.
