Ex-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson gave selling his Texas retreat a go last year, but buyers looking for a $4 million estate on Applehead Island proved difficult to flush out into the open. At the time, Tillerson had relocated to the Kalorama neighborhood of D.C. to shorten his commute.

Tillerson bade farewell to the nexus of Trumpworld at the end of last month, but he’s still interested in selling the property in Texas. The re-listing comes with a 10% price cut; the home’s asking is now reduced to $3.575 million.

The property is part of the Horseshoe Bay development, an 80-acre residential and recreational complex guarded by a private security force that features 54 holes of golf.

At somewhat less than 6,000 square feet, the house measures well within the parameters for an ‘ideal’ single-family home size, with four bedrooms and four baths. It’s a villa, with strong Italian design cues: stucco walls, tile roof, and a Tuscan earth-tone color palette.

The interiors are bright and very, very warm, with much of the home sporting variations on yellow or beige, including the limestone floor tiles. Woodgrain is used sparingly, and is generally rustic. Details include hand-carved embellishments.

Overall, the house is very comfortable, with an ambiance that is engineered and managed very well, and many pleasing details. The property exterior incorporates a summer kitchen, a reflecting pool, and Mediterranean-style landscaping.

Tillerson’s tenure as Secretary of State lasted a little over a year.
