Having recently purchase a residential property in the equestrian-oriented enclave of Wellington, Florida, Mr. William Joel is more interested than ever in seeing his ‘other’ Floridian escape off into the Caribbean sunset.
Joel’s been trying to find a buyer for the home going on three years; his once-optimistic selling-price aspirations have diminished somewhat, but not too dramatically. The property was originally listed with an adjacent ‘buffer’ lot for a notch less than thirty million dollars; as of now, the ask for the original property alone is $16.9 million. Joel purchased the house in 2014 for $12 million, picking up the additional lot later in the year for $6.5 million.
Located in Manalapan—just south of Palm Beach—the house was built in 2005 and is designed in the Florida Mediterranean style. The villa features an interior colonnade as a centerpiece and a trattoria-style kitchen, both of which place it strongly in the Italian style, but it also veers off into Caribbean island influence. There are some nice touches here, most notably in ceiling design and in scale; the double-height living room with second-floor gallery is a highlight of the home.
There are seven bedrooms and 7.5 baths throughout this 13,200 square foot coastal retreat. Bedrooms feature dedicated balconies. Exterior living space also incorporates a generous slab of lawn, a pool and outdoor lounge, and 150 feet of river frontage with a private dock.
Joel’s upcoming performances include several spring dates at Madison Square Garden. Accolades bestowed upon the legendary entertainer include seven honorary doctorate degrees.
