Heidi Klum Acquires Soho Loft With Great Potential for $5.1M

Supermodel and TV host Heidi Klum has picked up a historic New York City penthouse for $5.1 million. The unit is located in a Soho building that dates to the late 1800s, and is earmarked for renovation.

Klum’s new digs, then, could at present be considered a bit of a fixer-upper project. In fact, the 4,772-square-foot space was previously used as an artists studio, so despite its classic features, the residence will need some work before it qualifies as a luxury apartment.

What the unit has right now, in spades, is the kind of pre-2000 SoHo charm that’s fast becoming extinct. A wild sense of scale, functional supports, track lighting, and knockout hardwood floors all contribute to an authentic feel that is untouched by contrivance. Set at the top of a six-story Queen Anne-style building, the special space is 125-long with ten exposed columns and tall ceilings that could be altered to add a glass atrium or skylights.

In addition to soaring ceilings and sash windows with sprawling city views, the unit also comes with the option of purchasing the rights to the roof for a private garden terrace. The geography comes built-in with substantial monthly fees, though: $7,200.

Klum, a “Project Runway” host and “America’s Got Talent” judge, also works as a fashion designer and businesswoman.
