Emmy-nominated television producer Josh Donen recently put his Malibu home on the market for $4.995 million.
Donen, who is best known for producing Netflix’s hit “House of Cards,” picked up the Los Angeles-area property for just $1.3 million back in 1999. The 3,344-square-foot contemporary home boasts a light and airy aesthetic with a number of subtle rustic accents: tongue-in-groove ceilings, dark wood, and natural stone give it context and warmth.
Located in the guard-gated Serra Retreat community, the mid-1970s home boasts a number of mid-century architectural nods across four en-suite bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, most notably a transparency effect and very substantial staircase. The north-facing living room is a standout, with a greenhouse-style wall of glass sliders and panels facing the lush green backyard. The solarium effect is further enhanced by clerestories and plentiful oversize windows throughout.
Additional features like jute carpeting, a raised hearth fireplace, an exposed beam ceiling, and built-in bookcases, add touches of staid mid-century luxe. A galley-style kitchen with center island snack bar, and a wrap-around patio offer daily comfort.
Recreation spaces include a light-filled den, a trellis-covered dining space with a built-in barbeque and outdoor fireplace, a sports court, and a swimming pool and spa.
In addition to his work on the five-time Emmy-nominee “House of Cards,” Donen also served as a producer on the 2014 thriller flick “Gone Girl.” He is the son of director Stanley Donen.
