Bulgari Claims ‘Thin’ Record for the Fourth Time

Bulgari has claimed the title of thinnest watch for the fourth time. The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic currently carries the mantle as the most svelte timekeeping wristwear available.

Competitor Piaget recently captured the title its own super-thin Altiplano Ultimate Automatic 910P, but Bulgari wasn’t long in formulating a response, and it replied with the new watch this month at Baselworld 2018.

The record-breaking timepiece boasts an automatic movement. Taking inspiration from the 2014 Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, the movement is only 3.95 mm thick. So, yes, Audemars Piguet’s Ultra Thin Automatick Tourbillon Caliber 2870 loses its crown.

The watch’s slim design is due in part to the new manufacture Calibre BVL 288, which utilizes a unique peripheral oscillating weight for automatic winding. The BVL 288 is actually set independently into the case, followed by a separate caseback.

Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo also features a 52-hour power reserve, a sandblasted titanium case, and an openwork skeleton movement. The timepiece is available for $126,738, and production is limited to just 50 pieces.
