Snap Inc. co-founder and CTO Bobby Murphy is the new owner of a classic Spanish-style in Pacific Palisades. The twenty-something billionaire reportedly paid the asking price for the home: $19.5 million.

The house swings toward the colonial side of the Spanish eclectic style. Its exterior is defined by a boxy execution, and a distinct lack of softening arches. From the back, it looks like a Monterey Colonial, with a covered second-floor balcony running the length of the home.

Within, the warmth of the original structure remains intact. There’s a great deal of raw wood in use; most of the ceilings are exposed beam, and unfinished. The rustic effect is heavy but not self-conscious.

The property is endlessly invitational, beginning with a portico entryway that makes for a formal welcome. Inside, the invitational character continues, with a rambling layout that favors discovery and holds the occasional surprise.

The most appealingly comfortable rooms in the home? There are many, but the kitchen certainly qualifies to top the list. Some of the cabinetry appears to be in cedar, a less than usual choice of material that makes for a unique textural statement. But, like the rest of the home, the kitchen rambles, and elsewhere cottage cabinetry and subway tile are used.

The home contains a wet bar, and—taking the prize for best-lit space—an office/sunroom above the portico that is flanked with windows. The property was the longtime home of actor Eddie Albert.

Tech wizard Murphy co-founded Snapchat in 2011, and has reaped the rewards of innovation: his net worth is north of $3 billion.
