Matthew Perry Takes $12.5M for Stunning Mid-Century Modern in Hollywood Hills in Off-Market Deal

Actor Matthew Perry recently parted company with his residence in Hollywood Hills West. Perry—who recently purchased a full-floor penthouse at the Century Building downtown, spending a cool $20 million to close the deal—accepted an offer of about $12.5 million for the Bird Streets home.

Perry has owned the home since 2011, when he paid $8.5 million to take possession. He listed it on the market last summer with an asking price of $13.5 million.

Perry’s real-estate dealings generally involve modern or contemporary style homes, and the Bird Streets residence indicates no deviation from Perry’s established architectural interests. The home dates to 1962, and features a streetside impression that blends blue and stark white with the green fringes of landscaping, and an interior garden.

There’s a lot of the angularity and preoccupation with geometry that one expects from a mid-century modern, and the influence of Japanese residential architecture is evident in the incorporated atrium and the overlapping wood tones that help define the 10,600 square feet of interior living space. Renovations have brought walnut and even Macassar ebony into the picture, giving the already circumspect design an additional dimension of careful material selection.

Amenities include a home theater with LED starlight ceiling that features a glass wall allowing for an underwater view of the pool. The property exterior features an infinity-edge pool, a private terrace for the master suite, water features, and LED-illuminated outdoor staircase.

Perry’s recent screen appearances include the role of Ted Kennedy in the miniseries ‘The Kennedys: After Camelot.’
