In the upcoming model year, Porsche is giving serious drivers exactly what they want: the return of the RS designation. If the idea delights you as an abstraction, check out a specific context: the 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Unveiling at the Geneva Auto Show, Porsche’s new build promises a mightily potent roadgoing experience…it’s the most powerful naturally aspirated 911 ever. The GT3 RS is bolstered by 514 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.
The power comes by way of a 4.0-liter flat-six engine based on the 2018 GT’s setup. Bigger connecting rod bearings, larger-diameter bearings for the crankshaft, and plasma-coated cylinder liners increase engine efficiency and overall thrust. And, the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission is designed specifically for the engine. This dedication helps push the 2019 GT3 RS to a zero-to-60 leap of just 3.0 seconds, and a max speed of 193 mph.
In addition to upgrades under the hood, the sporty supercar also boasts a number of aesthetic and aerodynamic upgrades, including carbon-fiber fenders, a carbon-fiber trunk lid, a magnesium roof, and durable alloy wheels.
U.S. customers can expect to see the new 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS at dealerships this fall with a starting price of $188,550. An optional $18,000 carbon fiber-heavy Weissarch package will be available for reduced curb weight.
