Actress and musician Zooey Deschanel picked up a new home for the New Year; the 38-year-old performer paid the listing price of $5.58 million for the Cape Cod cottage-style charmer. The house had been on the market for about two months at the time of the sale.
The home’s streetside impression is charming indeed, featuring a series of balconies, shingles, and stacked stone accents that accumulate into a very cohesive statement. The house dates to 2004, but looks fairly vintage; it pulls off the pre-war beach-cottage appearance with aplomb. It is situated in the Manhattan Beach Tree Section, about three blocks from the ocean.
The home’s interiors feature a wide-open common living area set off by tongue-in-groove ceilings and mid-toned textured hardwood floors. There are five bedrooms and six full or partial baths throughout the residence’s 4,900 square feet of living space.
The home’s series of balconies gives it the charm of period eccentricity and surprise, and include a private space off the master suite, and a covered porch that surveys the community. A games room on the lower floor features a small wet bar and wine cellar.
The property exterior manages to pack a lot into the small lot size without seeming cluttered. A summer kitchen with grill station and bar, stone patio, back porch and outdoor fireplace complete the very comfortable look.
Deschanel’s varied musical performances include several songs from the ‘Trolls’ soundtrack; she also voice-acted in the film. She has starred in the Fox series ‘New Girl’ since the show premiered in 2011.
