To begin the New Year, Rosie O’Donnell let go of an old property, selling a mid-sized estate retreat in Palm Beach. The actress and satirist had owned the property since 2015, and got back about what she put into it: $5 million. She’d had the property priced at $5.5 million prior to the sale.
The house dates to the 1950’s, and measures out with around 5,700 square feet of living space. The two-story home is a warm-weather sprawler, with a fine sense of scale inside to enhance the light and space of the coastal Florida lifestyle. The great room is especially appealing, a double-height space that features a second-floor catwalk and a deco-style series of clerestory windows looking out over salt water. A brick fireplace with raised hearth gives the main house a nice feeling of warmth that grounds it well, and the soft pale grey walls add depth and define without darkening.
The open-concept living space transitions fluidly to the kitchen and family room. The house contains five bedrooms and seven baths, and the master is very pleasant indeed, with a nicely figured marble fireplace, two sets of French doors opening onto a private terrace, and a very recently overhauled bath/dressing room.
The estate extends to the waterline with unlimited visibility, working in a pool with elevated spa and sunlounge on the way to the dock. There is a small one-and-one guesthouse on the property, nestled amid the tropical landscaping.
Rosie O’Donnell is among the cast of Showtime’s new hit ‘SMILF’; if you’re not familiar with the acronym, well, you’ll have to look it up yourself.
