Film and T.V. producer and director Mike Tollin recently picked up this house in Sherman Oaks for $2.5 million. The sports fanatic best known for producing the 2003 film ‘Radio,’ the 2007 smash ‘Wild Hogs,’ and 1999’s classic ‘Varsity Blues,’ is the first owner of the recent build.

A five-bedroom contemporary of about 4,000 square feet, the house features Ipe accent siding as an exterior contrast, adding a little warmth to the geometry. The rear of the home features extended beams, a second-floor balcony, and retractable glass walls which open to the patio.

The interiors feature wide-open living spaces, a great deal of natural wood, recessed LED lighting, and a glass-enclosed floating staircase with slab hardwood treads.

The home’s use of matte-finished hardwood is especially appealing; the wide-plank floors are spectacular, and appear to be reclaimed. They give the interiors a little textural rusticity much needed with the lighting and ceiling design, which emphasizes geometric shape, and the kitchen, which is very minimalist, and features flat-finished pale hardwood cabinetry which looks very much like ash.

The house features a glass-enclosed wine room, a double-height great room with a second-floor gallery, and five en-suite bedrooms. The property exterior features a zero-edge pool and spa, a strip of lawn, and privacy landscaping.

Tollin’s film ‘Wild Hogs’ was a box office smash in 2007, bringing in over $250 million at the box office. He co-executive produced this year’s ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife,’ which was co-produced by his wife, Robbie Tollin.
