MLB pitcher Max Scherzer recently sold this penthouse condo in Arizona. Scherzer accepted an offer of $1.7 million for the property, which he’d had on and off the market for a little less than 18 months. The three-time Cy Young Award-winner purchased the home in 2013, for $1.4 million, and initially tried to market it at $2.2 million in August of last year before relisting the place in September with an asking price of $1.8 million.
Situated in the Optima Camelview Village Condominiums in Scottsdale, the unit measures a little more than 3,350 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The Optima building dates to 2007.
Scherzer’s now-former desert retreat features a contemporary design that tempers angularity with warmth; stone floors and dark wood combine with the unit’s modern ceiling design, and a great deal of glass makes the most of the location. The kitchen’s mix of textures includes steel, hardwood, and marble, and a five-seat breakfast bar atmospherically lit with an accent LED bar. The master suite features a pair of walk-in closets, a spa bath with raised soaking and spa tubs, and a sitting area.
The condo is smart-designed, with a Savant system controlling window shades, temperature, entertainment, and lighting. The unit’s living space extends to include four private balconies.
Scherzer’s current tenure with the Washington Nationals began in 2015, when he signed a seven-year, $210 million contract with the organization. Two of his three Cy Young awards came in 2016 and 2017.
