Aside from being well known as the producer, writer and/or director of several notable cult films from the 1980’s, James Glickenhaus is well known as the mastermind behind an astonishingly comprehensive collection of automobiles. A lover of Ferraris, Glickenhaus’ collection contains examples that date from the first decade of the company’s existence to the present.
In the early years of this decade, Glickenhaus began to bring together his own ideas for a car company, and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus was born. The company’s first production-level project was model SCG 003, which expanded into track-only and street-legal variations. This year, the company received NHTSA approval to commence production as a low-volume automaker.
The most recent phase of Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus’ rapid evolution is the entry-level SCG 004S. It’s a sleeker, more compact offering from the fledgling manufacturer, without the extreme aero of the SCG 003 variants. But, make no mistake: this is a car that is built exclusively for driving. Check out the panoramic glass racer’s cabin, the borrowed McLaren seating layout, the placement of the analog dials, the Ferrari-inspired three-spoke wheel, and the gated design of the stick shift gearbox. The standard may be subbed for a paddle-shift auto.
A great deal of carbon fiber helps keep the 004S’s weight below 2,600 pounds, and the V8 pushes 650 horsepower. At present, SCG isn’t discussing the speed-specs that result from such a power-to-weight ratio, but pricing is expected to begin at around $400K. The cars will be in the hands of buyers in 2019.
