NFL veteran Robert Griffin III has relisted his home in Virginia. The quarterback picked up the estate in 2013, at the end of his premier season in the pros, paying $2.5 million. The home measures over 8,500 square feet, and is now priced at a shadow under $2.7 million. Griffin had put the property up for sale in the spring of 2016 with an asking price of $2.75 million, but it languished on the market for nearly a year before being delisted.
The home’s a recent build—dating to 2010—but it pulls off the ye olde farmhouse look very well. The exterior is defined by a potent blend: stone, shingles, shutters, steep roofline, covered porch. The L-shaped home falls away toward fenced pasture demarcated by mature trees, a rolling bit of green that would make a couple of horses very happy.
Inside, though, it’s the house of a young hotshot star, with entertainment and recreation amenities galore: a wet bar and lounge/family room, home theater, wine cellar and elevator may be listed among the dazzle. There’s a lot of antiquing in the home generally, and a good balance of gloss and matte finish. Wainscoting, hardwood and stone floors, marble and hardwood fireplaces, and ornamental moldings all shimmer and shine a flashily engineered version of gentleman rancher. The master suite is the heart of the home, though, featuring a generously proportioned walk-in closet, and a bath centered by a raised, circular soaking tub.
The property extends to three acres. There is a heated pool/spa, and a pool house for outdoor warm-weather recreation.
Griffin, an enormously talented quarterback, took home the Heisman in 2011, and was drafted #2 by the Redskins in 2012. He subsequently played for the Browns, and is now a free agent.
