Kim Basinger recently sold an interesting little getaway/investment home in Woodland Hills. Basinger accepted an offer of $970K for the property; records indicate she purchased it in 2001, for a little over $500K.
The home dates to 1963. The property and house are quaintly evocative of the period; individualistic design cues abound, a rustic feel prevails, and the home’s interior architecture highlights functionality over flash. The raw wood used everywhere becomes the textural foundation of the interior. The exterior uses a weathered finish to enhance the effect.
Open beam, cathedral ceilings and octagonal-shaped rooms allow for a pleasing sense of scale and continuation. Pine is used widely throughout, and wide-plank floors contribute to the intense rustic atmosphere. In the library, a chaotic series of built-ins makes for an imaginative vision of study and exploration; no rigid formality here, thank-you.
Other materials used include bamboo, and a series of reclaimed materials, including timber, brick, and metal. Most charming is the custom ironwork featured in the front door panels and the property gate, a meandering motif which could be the outline of an arabesque.
The property measures 2,581 square feet, with a pair of bedrooms and three baths throughout. The nearly half-acre property features a stream-fed pond, lawns, and mature trees; the lot is landscaped for seclusion and a bit of wildness, in keeping with the design of the home itself.
Basinger took home an Oscar for her role as Lake-lookalike Lynn. Most recently, she appeared in a starring role in this year’s ‘Fifty Shades Darker.’
